(Patria) - Aryna Sabalenka defended her title at the Australian Open, following today's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Qinwen Zheng in the tournament final.
Although she was the favorite before the match, Sabalenka defeated Zheng much more easily than expected. The only thing that resembled a wobble for Aryna Sabalenka in this match was in the final game, but her nerves held, and she thus won the Australian Open for the second consecutive time.
Not only did she win the crown for the second straight time, but she did so without losing a set throughout the entire tournament. On her way to the final, Sabalenka dominated against every opponent, defeating Ella Sidel, Brenda Fruhvirtova, Lesia Tsurenko, Amanda Anisimova, Barbora Krejčíková and Coco Gauff all by 2-0 in sets, and she defeated Zheng by the same score in today's final.
Qinwen Zheng fought fiercely, but Sabalenka refused to give her a chance in this match.
In the previous six Grand Slam tournaments, Sabalenka has won two titles, one runner-up finish and three semi-finals, making her currently the best female tennis player, but she will remain second on the WTA list behind Iga Swiatek.
