Ryanair begins air operations from Sarajevo International Airport

(Patria) - The official opening of the new route between Gothenburg and Sarajevo by leading European low-cost airline Ryanair was marked by a press conference at the tourist information center of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board at Sarajevo International Airport.

The Boeing 738 landed on the runway of Sarajevo Airport at 08:20 local time, and was welcomed with a traditional water salute, marking the beginning of flights between Gothenburg and Sarajevo. Haris Fazlagić - President of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board and Vedrana Vikić Musić - Director of the Airport Services Sector at Sarajevo International Airport addressed the attendees at the press conference.

Fazlagić reminded that the opening of this route is the result of a public call for the subsidization of air traffic, conducted in cooperation with the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, Sarajevo International Airport, and the Sarajevo Canton Government. He announced that preparations are underway for a new international public call for the subsidization of air traffic for the next two years.

“It is especially important that one of the leading low-cost airlines like Ryanair has a base in Sarajevo. We at the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board have great plans and expectations for the upcoming summer season, and the possibility of more flights will certainly help us achieve our goals,” stated Fazlagić.

“The first flight from Gothenburg was successfully completed, and in the coming days, as part of the summer flight schedule, we expect the start of air operations to five other attractive European destinations. We have invested great effort to implement the possibility of subsidizing airlines to expand the network of destinations from Sarajevo, and that effort has paid off,” stated Vikić Musić.

In the coming days, Ryanair's air operations to London, Brussels, Memmingen, Milan, and Thessaloniki will begin from Sarajevo International Airport, offering passengers additional travel opportunities and connectivity to attractive European destinations.
