(Patria) - Russia launched drones and missiles at Ukraine last night, damaging infrastructure and killing at least ten people, including two children, in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian officials said, Reuters reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russia targeted the energy sector and railway infrastructure across the country.
"Partners should respond to these wild attacks on lives," Zelenskiy said on Telegram.
"Russia has not given up on attempts to destroy Ukraine's residential and critical infrastructure, and therefore support should continue," Zelenskiy said, calling on partners to continue supplying air defense and weapons.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and regional prosecutors estimated the death toll in the city at eleven, one more than Zelenskiy's estimate.
Zelenskiy, speaking in his nightly video address, described the attack as "terrible" and said rescue teams, including specialists from other regions, were clearing rubble and searching for bodies underneath.
Ukrainian air defense units shot down 453 drones and 19 missiles, the air force announced. But nine missiles and 26 attack drones hit 22 locations, it said.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces carried out massive night attacks on Ukrainian military-industrial complexes, military airfields, and energy facilities, the Interfax news agency reported.
In Kharkiv, fifteen people were injured, and nineteen residential buildings were damaged in the Russian attacks, said the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Syniehubov. Business and administrative buildings, power distribution lines, and cars were also hit, he said.
In Kyiv, three people were injured, and heating was cut off in 2,806 residential buildings in four districts across the capital after Russian attacks hit an energy infrastructure facility, said Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
The national grid operator Ukrenergo announced that emergency power outages were introduced in seven regions following the Russian attacks.
Ukrainian officials said Russia also attacked four railway stations and other railway infrastructure in central Ukraine and port infrastructure in the southern Odesa region, setting fire to containers of vegetable oil and damaging a grain storage facility.
