(Patria) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Iraqi leadership to continue protecting the US embassy after violent protests over the US-Israeli attack on neighboring Iran, AFP reported.
In a phone call with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Rubio "reiterated the importance of the Iraqi government taking all possible measures to protect US diplomatic personnel and facilities," State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said.
Last week, authorities accused demonstrators of firing live ammunition that wounded security forces members after angry protesters tried to storm the fortified "Green Zone," the site of several embassies and key government buildings.
