Ronaldo's 97th-minute penalty takes Real Madrid into the semi-finals

Despite a 1:3 home defeat to Juventus, Real Madrid secured a place in the Champions League semi-finals with an aggregate score of 4:3.

Juventus took an early lead through Mario Mandžukić, who beat Navas in the 2nd minute of the match. Douglas Costa brilliantly found Khedira, who crossed to the far post, and Mandžukić headed home. This was his first goal in three months, the last one being in the cup against Torino.

This was the fastest goal Real have ever conceded at home in the Champions League.

In the 15th minute, the Croatian striker missed a great chance to score another goal. After a corner kick, the ball hit his knee and Navas managed to save his shot.

What followed was a relatively calm period of play, until the 39th minute when Mandžukić doubled the lead with another goal. Stephan Lichtsteiner delivered a fine cross into the box, where Mandžukić was unmarked and confidently scored to make it 2:0.

Although Real Madrid were the better team at the start of the second half, Matuidi shocked the Royals in the 61st minute. Keylor Navas made a catastrophic mistake, and the French international capitalised on the gift.

Just when everyone thought the match would go into extra time, Mehdi Benatia brought down an opponent with a reckless challenge in his own penalty area.

Gianluigi Buffon fiercely protested this decision, for which Michael Oliver showed him a red card.

Cristiano Ronaldo took responsibility and with a precise shot found the back of the visitors' goal, securing his team's passage to the semi-finals.
