Parents of Serbian children in Brčko halt classes, do not want them taught by Bosniaks

Parents of children of Serbian nationality living in the Ilićka settlement in Brčko halted classes today at the local school because they do not want their children taught by Bosniak teachers, reports the BH news agency Patria.

Classes began today in 20 primary and secondary schools in the Brčko area, but not in the Primary School in the Ilićka settlement. Parents of children of Serbian nationality forbade the little ones from attending classes because Bosniaks teach at the school.

Head of the Education Department in the Brčko District Government, Niko Stoparić, confirmed to Patria that there are problems at the local school in Ilićka, but he hopes to resolve the interruption of classes as soon as possible.

- Politics is involved in everything, I hope we will solve the problem we have - said Stoparić.

The Primary School in the Ilićka settlement was opened last year as a branch school of the First Primary School, and is attended by children from first to fifth grade.

The Ilićka settlement is mainly inhabited by Serbs who settled there from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the bloody conflicts in BiH, writes Patria.
