A hearing will be held at the Higher Court in Belgrade in the procedure for the rehabilitation of the commander of the Chetnik movement Dragoljub Mihailović, who was convicted and executed in 1946 for cooperation with the occupier of Yugoslavia during World War II, and for war crimes, reports Beta, as conveyed by the Patria news agency.
Two small groups have gathered in front of the Palace of Justice – anti-fascists and supporters of Mihailović's rehabilitation, but there are no incidents. At the end of February, the rehabilitation procedure was formally reopened due to a change in the composition of the court panel.
The request for the rehabilitation of Dragoljub Mihailović was submitted in 2006 by his grandson Vojislav Mihailović, professors Smilja Avramov and Kosta Čavoški, the Serbian Liberal Council, and the Association of Yugoslav Army in the Homeland.
The request sought the annulment of the verdict of July 15, 1946, by which Mihailović was sentenced to death for collaboration with the Nazi occupiers and by which his civil rights were revoked. The rehabilitation procedure began on September 16, 2010, but the process was stalled on two occasions.
The first time, the date of Mihailović's execution was awaited, and the second time, the Alliance of Anti-fascists of Serbia filed criminal charges against two witnesses for perjury.
By the decision of the First Basic Court in Belgrade, July 17, 1946, was determined as the date of Mihailović's death.
