Robert Prosinečki is the new coach of Montenegro

(Patria) - Robert Prosinečki is the new coach of the Montenegrin national football team, decided the Executive Board of the Football Association of Montenegro.

Prosinečki will sign the contract on Sunday, February 4, after which he will be presented at a press conference scheduled for 1 PM at the House of Football.

The Croatian expert is the seventh coach in the history of the Montenegrin national team and will succeed Miodrag Radulović in this position.

Previously, the "Sokoli" were led from the bench by Zoran Filipović, Zlatko Kranjčar, Branko Brnović, Ljubiša Tumbaković, and Faruk Hadžibegić.

Prosinečki had a brilliant playing career, while his coaching career, at least for now, is far from it.

He managed Red Star, Kayserispor twice, the national teams of Azerbaijan and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denizlispor, Olimpija Ljubljana, and Rudeš.

He left the Rudeš bench last September, after winning only one point in seven league matches.

He is considered the most successful coach of Azerbaijan, along with the German Berti Vogts. He achieved several notable results with that team, such as draws against Croatia, Norway, and the Czech Republic.

In addition, Azerbaijan, with him on the bench, achieved its most convincing victory in history – 5:1 against San Marino.

He also had good results on the bench of the "Dragons". Together with Safet Sušić, he holds Bosnia and Herzegovina's record of 10 consecutive wins.

With the BiH national team, the Croatian coach qualified for the A League of Nations and the European Championship play-offs.

There was also speculation that Mladen Krstajić, Mirko Vučinić, and Igor Angelovski were in contention for the "Sokoli" helm.

Montenegro has been without a coach since the beginning of December, when the contract with Miodrag Radulović was mutually terminated.

The Montenegrin national team will play its first match of the year on March 21, and its opponent in a friendly match will be the Belarusian team in Antalya.
