(Patria) - The Council of the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska has definitively sentenced Renato Marjanović (34) to seven and a half years in prison for the attempted murder of ten people in March 2021 in Prijedor.
The Supreme Court of Republika Srpska confirmed the earlier first-instance verdict of the District Court in Prijedor.
The indictment charged Marjanović with the attempted murder of 10 people in the "4 WD" cafe in Prijedor in March 2021, when he riddled the cafe with bullets from a car, firing 29 rounds from an automatic rifle.
Of these, eight bullets hit the interior of the facility, and some flew at head height of the guests, but no one was hit.
During the appeal process, Marjanović and his defense attorney disputed the qualification of the crime, claiming he was mentally ill and therefore should not be sentenced to prison.
Marjanović is also known for violent behavior, and he came into the public spotlight in March 2019 when he harassed and insulted a returnee, a fellow citizen of Bosniak nationality, at a scrap metal yard.
During that incident, he forced the person, with threats, strangulation, and blows, to remove a sticker with the coat of arms of Bosnia and Herzegovina from a trailer.
He published a video of the torture on his Facebook profile, after which he was arrested.
Police had previously seized his "VW Touran" in Bosanska Dubica after it was determined that he owed 15,885 KM in unpaid fines.
A search of the vehicle revealed a semi-automatic rifle M59/66 caliber 7.62 mm, a bayonet for a military rifle, an M-75 hand grenade, and 26 rifle rounds caliber 7.62 mm.
