Rector Škrijelj at FKN: Discussed the European Criminology Conference with Dean Korajlić

The first week of official visits to organizational units of the University of Sarajevo ended on November 3, 2017, with visits by the University Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj and Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, Prof. Dr. Maida Čohodar-Husić, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, and Prof. Zijad Mehić. Today, visits and meetings were held with the deans of the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, Prof. Dr. Nedžad Korajlić, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Prof. Dr. Zlatan Sarić, as well as with vice-deans, secretaries, and heads of faculty services.

Through today's visits, Rector Škrijelj continued to assess the current situation with the aim of the continuous development of the University of Sarajevo, identifying any potential difficulties, and improving cooperation. Rector Škrijelj informed the deans of the faculties that, due to a pronounced shortage of younger academic staff, the „Employment Project for 200 Assistants – the Best Students of the University of Sarajevo“ has been drafted and submitted to the Sarajevo Canton Government for consideration.

One of the topics of today's discussions was the implementation of the Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton. It was emphasized that the University of Sarajevo has begun implementing the Law, but will record all shortcomings, i.e., parts of the Law that are unenforceable within the prescribed deadlines, and, through its representatives on the Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the Law on Higher Education, delegate proposals for improvements or amendments to the Law under an urgent procedure.

Given that both faculties are located within the University of Sarajevo Campus, special attention was paid to discussions on the arrangement and cleaning of the Campus area, which will, among other things, include repairing the fence and horticultural landscaping in cooperation with the Faculty of Forestry. The realization of activities for arranging and cleaning the area within the University of Sarajevo Campus depends on the collected bids from the municipal companies „Rad“ and „Park“, after which teams from the University of Sarajevo and these companies will specify the dynamics of activities on this matter.

The faculties visited today have exceptionally developed international cooperation, and the importance of organizing the conference of the „European Criminology Association BiH“, which will be held next year in Sarajevo and is expected to be attended by around 1,500 leading experts from around the world, was particularly highlighted.

The University leadership also extended congratulations to the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences for the success achieved during the last Erasmus+ call for strengthening the capacity of higher education institutions. The University of Sarajevo is the holder of the only approved coordinating project in BiH, the „Western Balkan Urban Agriculture Initiative“, which was prepared and will be implemented by the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences.
