Ivo Karlović, the greatest server of all time, hangs up his racket

(Patria) - Croatian tennis player Ivo Karlović, the greatest server of all time, has officially retired from professional sports.

The giant from Šalata took to social media and published an emotional letter concluding his career.

"Some of you have noticed that it’s been a while since I played a tournament and still ask me on a daily basis if and when I’ll be returning. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but with this letter I want to officially announce my retirement.

I have had a very satisfying and long career, which started extremely modestly, especially for a tennis player. Croatia was a completely different country in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up, and I am very proud of my achievements and what I managed to overcome.

I would like to thank all the coaches and people who were involved and contributed to my development as a tennis player. Without you, this happy journey would not have been possible.

My family provided me with enormous support and I love them immensely. I look forward to continuing to spend time with them doing things that are important to us and that fulfill us.

To all of you who have been fans and supporters over the years, thank you for being part of my journey. I love you all and hope to see you again.

I will stay close to tennis and try to share my knowledge and all the incredible experiences from the tour with new generations of tennis players. The journey continues and the focus shifts. I am grateful," wrote Karlović.

Ivo Karlović first appeared on the ATP list on June 9, 1997, and for more than a quarter of a century he remained among the best tennis players in the world.

He reached his highest ranking in 2008 when he held 14th place, and he spent a total of 44 weeks among the top 20.

He won his last title at the Challenger in Calgary in 2018.
