Reis Kavazović ahead of Ramadan: Let our life motto be the good we share with others

(Patria) - Ramadan 1440 AH / 2019 will begin at sunset on Sunday, May 5, 2019. The first tarawih prayer will be performed on Sunday, while the first day of fasting of this year's blessed month of Ramadan will be on Monday, May 6. On this occasion, the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein ef. Kavazović, sent a Ramadan message to the faithful, which we transmit in full:

"Praise be to Allah, the refuge and source of all good. In His power are all our possessions and all our hopes. In these chosen days, we seek refuge in Him from all kinds of evil and pray for His mercy. May the prophets and Muhammad, peace be upon him, and all good people until the end of the world be blessed.

Brothers and sisters.

Monday, May 6 this year, is the first day of Ramadan. With special excitement, we await that month of worship, piety, mercy, and solidarity of all kinds. In it, perhaps more than at other times, we are aware of how much, as sons and daughters of Adam, we are directed towards one another. Closeness to God makes us closer to people and other creatures. In this month, we feel the harmony of the world and the beauty of Allah's creation.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said that time is like a sword: if we do not use it, it will cut us. Therefore, let us beware of that sword. Let our life motto be the good we share with others. If we set this for ourselves, we will sooner find ourselves living in a society of good people and in a society where good is the highest value.

Ramadan is an opportunity to look at ourselves and the world around us from the perspective of our responsibility. Let us rise above the everyday and set ourselves a goal: to live a life dedicated to God, goodness, and nobility.

The Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, peace be upon him, taught us that fasting is the shield of the believer. Every act of worship, and fasting especially, protects us from the evil that does not rest. Fasting gives us the strength to oppose it more effectively.

I call upon you to direct that strength towards fighting the great scourges of our society: corruption and gambling addiction are eating away at all the pores of our society and our families. It is time to resolutely oppose them and to strengthen and reinforce our moral habitus.

We are especially pleased that, by God's will, on Saturday, May 4, we will open the doors of the completely rebuilt Aladža Mosque in Foča. It is a beautiful Ramadan gift to our entire suffering country. With great joy and excitement, our believers' hearts will be full and determined to dedicate ourselves even more to goodness.

With these thoughts and a prayer to the Exalted Allah, glory be to Him, to all Muslims in the homeland, the countries of origin, and the diaspora: Ramadan Mubarak," said Grand Mufti Kavazović.
