(Patria) - Real Madrid footballers convincingly defeated Girona 4-0 in the derby of the 24th round of the Spanish championship, inflicting only the second loss of the season on the Catalan team and extending their lead to five points.
Brazilian Vinicius Junior and English international Jude Bellingham played brilliant matches. Vinicius Jr. gave Real the lead in the 6th minute and got the Santiago Bernabeu on its feet, when he precisely and powerfully hit the opposite corner from the left flank, from more than 20 meters.
The Brazilian had a hand in every goal scored by the home team. In the 35th minute, he found Bellingham with the outside of his foot, in a 'Modrić' style, who finished the action for 2-0 without difficulty.
In the 54th minute, Vinicius Jr. weaved through the Girona defense on the left flank, shot, and forced the visiting goalkeeper Gazzaniga into a difficult save. He only parried the ball slightly, and Bellingham pounced on it and put it into the net.
Before Carlo Ancelotti took him off, Vinicius Jr. managed to assist Rodrygo for the final 4-0 in the 61st minute.
Real could have scored a fifth, but Joselu hit the post from a penalty kick in the last minute.
Croatian national team captain Luka Modrić played the last 20 minutes, when he replaced Toni Kroos.
With their 19th victory, Real reached 61 points, while second-placed Girona remained at 56. Barcelona is third with 50 points and a game in hand.
