Wartime Mayor of Trebinje Božidar Vučurević Expelled from SDS

Božidar Vučurević has been expelled from the Serbian Democratic Party with the explanation that he cannot simultaneously be a member of two political parties. The former leader of the Herzegovina SDS does not accept the decision of the Trebinje city committee, reports the news agency Patria.

He still says he carries a membership card with serial number 001 in his pocket, but the party he founded two and a half decades ago, he claims, no longer exists.

“These are all some newcomers who came much later, fugitives, deserters, of whom we have plenty. And there are no longer our people who founded the SDS in that party. That is why they are now pouring over, returning to our original Serbian Democratic Party,” said Vučurević.

Due to personal interests and material gain, Vučurević simply switched sides, claims the head of the SDS parliamentary group, Vukota Govedarica. He does not foresee a bright future for the original SDS members, reports ATV.

In April 2011, members of the Serbian Ministry of Interior arrested the wartime mayor of Trebinje and one of the founders of the SDS, Božidar Vučurević, at the Karakaj border crossing between Zvornik and Mali Zvornik. Vučurević was then arrested on an international warrant from Croatia but was released.

According to the indictment in Croatia, Vučurević is charged with the bombing of Dubrovnik in the early 1990s, when he served as the head of the Trebinje municipality.

He was a long-time member of the SDS Main Board and one of the founders of this party. Also, Vučurević was a defense witness for Radovan Karadžić at the Hague Tribunal.
