The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team defeated Finland at Bilino Polje stadium tonight with a score of 4:1. Robert Prosinečki's squad, despite the absence of Edin Džeko, played a very good game and ultimately deservedly celebrated.
In this match, the popular "Yellows" decided to field debutant Adnan Kovačević from the start, along with returning national team players Armin Hodžić and Zoran Kvržić. This paid off in the end, as Kovačević, in tandem with Bičakčić, formed a wall in front of our goal. Kvržić did an excellent job both in attack and defense, and Hodžić best replaced Džeko by scoring a goal in the 73rd minute.
A CLEAR GOAL DISALLOWED
The match started excellently for the Dragons. It was the fifth minute when Amer Gojak beat Hradecky, but referee Kruzliak disallowed his goal. After that, Elvis Sarić crossed from the left, the ball reached Zoran Kvržić who shot first-time, but wide of Finland's goal.
Edin Višća left the game in the 18th minute due to injury, and Izet Hajrović entered the field to great ovations from the crowd. Ten minutes later, Hajrović brilliantly got rid of his marker, received a ball, and hit the top right corner of Finland's goal to take a 1:0 lead.
In the 37th minute, another ball found its way into the Finns' net. Sead Kolašinac shot, the ball hit the hand of a Finnish player, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Miralem Pjanić, who wore the captain's armband in the absence of Edin Džeko, was the confident scorer.
Pjanić's Crossbar
Our team had the first big chance in the continuation of the match in the 53rd minute. Amer Gojak was fouled on the edge of Finland's penalty area, and the Slovak referee awarded a free kick to our team. Pjanić placed the ball, masterfully shot into the very "top corner", but Hradecky, with the help of the crossbar, sent the ball into a corner.
It was the 58th minute when the crowd at the Bilino Polje stadium was on its feet again. Gojak shot, the ball rebounded to Hodžić whose attempt was blocked by the Finnish defense. The ball then came to Cimirot who played it to Pjanić, and our captain scored to make it 3:0.
Finland's best chance of the match, before conceding the goal, came in the 61st minute. Pukki broke down the right side and passed to Soiri who shot wide of Ibrahim Šehić's goal.
It was the 73rd minute when Hradecky had to pick the ball out of his net for the fourth time. Armin Hodžić scored to make it a commanding 4:0. The Finns scored their consolation goal in the 79th minute, with Pohjanpalo being the scorer. It should be noted that the stands of the Bilino Polje stadium were filled to capacity, and the fans supported our Dragons throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Robert Prosinečki's squad will play their next match in Greece on October 15th, starting at 8:45 PM.
