Rafter-hero Samir Krivić, who saved people in Maglaj, nominated for public recognition by the Municipality of Konjic

Samir Krivić, a member of the Europa Rafting Club from Konjic, who was among the first to arrive in the flooded Maglaj in May 2014, has been nominated for the highest public recognition on the occasion of June 16, Municipality Day Konjic for 2015, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

He was nominated on April 28 by members of the Association "Volunteers and Friends of the Konjic Region" (VIPK), and the Mayor of Maglaj, Mehmed Mustabašić, also expressed his support.

Samir Krivić, a rafter-hero, made a huge contribution to saving the population of Maglaj, which was cut off from the rest of the world in May last year.

- In those dramatic hours, the beloved physical education teacher at the Second Primary School in Konjic was the first to initiate a rescue operation, gathered a group of his fellow rafters, quickly broke through to the flooded Maglaj, and during those days, he and his friends performed exceptional heroic deeds, which were reported by media across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world, and we ordinary citizens of Konjic felt undisguised pride in our brave fellow citizen.

According to VIPK, a large number of elderly, sick, children, and vulnerable people were evacuated precisely thanks to the brave intervention of Samir and his friends. Without communication, electricity, water, or medicine, convinced that they had been forgotten, the people of Maglaj received the necessary water, bread, and medicine in this way. In this way, Samir and his rafters sent a message to the people of Maglaj that they were not forgotten.

- Heroes like Samir Krivić do not fight for recognition but for human lives. However, we who share noble ideals of humanity will not, nor can we, turn a blind eye to the fact that he was the first in Maglaj when things were at their worst. For his nobility, selflessness, heroism, and unparalleled humanity, Samir Krivić deserves recognition from his city as a distinguished individual and serves as an inspiration for all of us to be better people - it is stated in the letter from VIPK addressed to the President of the Commission for Public Recognition, Emir Bubalo, and the Mayor of Konjic.
