(Patria) - The National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina reopens.
Workers received their overdue payments this morning, and after a meeting with FBiH Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić and Minister of Education and Science Jasna Duraković, a path for further financing of this key library institution in the country was agreed upon.
Employees received a promise from the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina that it will take over financing until the end of this year.
To continue the Library's operations, the Government will seek a solution through a special law, Lex Specialis, which will be sent to the parliamentary procedure.
We remind you that the employees of NUL BiH suspended services to the public yesterday.
The President of the Employees' Council, Aldin Huskić, stated then that the reason for this decision was the lack of a concrete policy by the authorities to resolve their situation, due to which they no longer have conditions for functioning and work.
Huskić said that the 300,000 KM allocated by the Sarajevo Canton Government from the budget for the operation of this institution through the Ministry of Culture and Sports, as well as 100,000 KM through the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth, is significant for paying part of the debts to workers, but is not enough for the long-term survival of the institution.
The workers demand from the authorities the appointment of a management structure and a defined and stable legal and financial status for the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
