Workers of STEELMIN BH announce protests: We demand an answer from the institutions of the state we fought for!

Workers of the company STEELMIN BH from Jajce will organize protests on Monday (14 September 2015), reports the Patria news agency.

We decided on this step after the Management of the company STEELMIN BH was forced to halt production and send workers home.

- Given that we ended up on the street, the Organisational Committee representing 85 employees is ready to do everything within legal frameworks to restart production and return workers to their jobs. The case of the Jajce company STEELMIN BH is perhaps the only one in BiH and beyond where workers are not protesting against employers or the company Management, but against state structures. The Management of STEELMIN BH has been fulfilling all obligations towards the state and workers for years, but due to court decisions and delays in proceedings, production has been halted, and workers are forced to protect their workplaces through protests - the statement says.

The company STEELMIN BH was founded in 2011 and includes furnaces 4 and 5, which once belonged to the industrial giant from Jajce, the company 'Elektrobosna'.

- Throughout that period, it has been involved in court disputes over access to the land surrounding the company. Courts at both the municipal and cantonal levels have continued to delay the final decision due to technical-legal reasons.

The workers want the court to make a decision as soon as possible, whatever it may be, but it is important for us to know where we stand, so that the institutions of the state we fought for do not keep us in uncertainty for years. In addition to holding protests, the Organisational Committee will also adopt certain conclusions on Monday. If there is no adequate response from the authorities, we will be forced to block roads - the statement further reads.
