(Patria) - While citizens mostly notice well-maintained lawns, mowed green areas, and parks, with new flowers adorning flowerbeds, behind every such scene lies the arduous, responsible, and often extremely dangerous work of the employees of the Park company, who work in the field daily, regardless of the weather, to keep Sarajevo tidy, safe, and pleasant to live in.
Workers found a bombRain, high temperatures, all-day physical labor, inaccessible terrain, and demanding working conditions are no longer the biggest challenges faced by Park employees. What is particularly concerning today is the fact that the lives of workers in the field are increasingly directly endangered.
Today, during regular mowing and maintenance activities of public green spaces on Grbavička Street, in the Grbavica area, teams from the Park company found a hand grenade left in a jar next to a tree in the lawn.
The good fortune in this extremely dangerous situation is that the workers acted completely professionally and in accordance with all standards and safety procedures, and conducted a thorough inspection of the area before starting to mow. It was precisely thanks to their responsibility and caution that the jar containing the hand grenade was spotted. Had the object not been noticed in time, the consequences could have been catastrophic, especially if the explosive device had come into contact with a trimmer or a lawnmower.

Immediately after finding the bomb, the workers informed the management of the Park company and the Novo Sarajevo Police Department, after which the work was suspended, and the competent services conducted an investigation and proceeded to remove the explosive device. The investigation is currently concluding.
It is particularly concerning that this is an area covered by the regular Maintenance Program and that has been horticulturally maintained several times during the year. Such a circumstance further indicates that this is not a leftover explosive device from the war period, but a deliberately placed lethal weapon that directly endangered people's lives.
In this case, it could have been the Park workers performing the mowing, but equally so, children playing on the nearby playground, citizens who pass through that part of the neighborhood daily, pets, or stray dogs.
KJKP„Park“d.o.o.Sarajevo issues a serious appeal to the citizens of Sarajevo Canton to also consider the safety of municipal company workers who perform difficult and responsible work in public areas daily, often exposed to risks that the public rarely thinks about.
Park employees invest enormous effort, knowledge, and physical exertion daily to ensure that Sarajevo's green spaces are well-maintained, clean, and safe for all citizens. Therefore, such situations, three decades after the war, cannot and must not be accepted as normal or commonplace.
The protection of human life and safety must be the responsibility of all of us.
