QUARANTINE CLIP Tvrtko and Koprive Sang "Sojka Bird" to Hungarians

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - During the general isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic, Hungarian Tvrtko Vujić and the Tamburitza ensemble Koprive decided to cheer up Hungarians with the sevdalinka “Zapjevala sojka ptica”.

Tvrtko Vujić and Koprive are our people, but their ancestors moved to Hungary 400 years ago.

Vujić's roots are from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, just like the tamburitza ensemble Koprive, who live in western Hungary, almost on the border with Austria, and due to the region they live in, they are called Burgenland Croats.

Wikipedia says that the Burgenland Croats, due to historical circumstances and the arrival of the Ottoman Empire, emigrated from the areas of Lika, Krbava, Kordun, Banovina, western Bosnia, Gorski Kotar and Slavonia.

The members of the tamburitza ensemble are members of the Croatian community in Hungary. Since childhood, they have been closely connected with the folk music of western Hungary, where they still live today. Over time, they have been touched by different musical impulses, which is why at their concerts they like to combine newer styles with folk melodies.

Koprive are popular performers at various folklore and world music festivals, as well as gastro events throughout Hungary. In addition, they regularly hold their own concerts in neighboring countries and have been on tour in the United States several times.

In addition to their own compositions and songs from their homeland, their repertoire includes folk melodies from Burgenland and other regions of Hungary where Croats live.

Tvrtko Vujić, a Hungarian citizen, publicist, television journalist and world traveler, who has visited dozens of world metropolises and locations, and has also published a book translated into about twenty world languages.

He is followed by almost half a million people on Facebook.

One of the most famous Croats in Hungary decided to record the aforementioned sevdalinka with the ensemble Koprive on this unusual Easter.

“I played the tamburitza as a child and that's how I met Koprive. They stick to their culture not only in Hungary but also further afield. We wanted to give Hungarians something nice and unusual, and we chose a soulful song. I know that this song is sung in Bosnia as ‘Zapjevala Bulbul ptica’. I don't listen to Hungarian music, only Balkan music, and this is how we wanted to encourage our fellow citizens with a song,” Vujić told Patria.
