Holy Catholic Midnight Mass was held last night throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the BH News Agency Patria.
The central mass was held in the Sarajevo Cathedral, which was traditionally led by Cardinal Vinko Puljić.
He congratulated Christmas to believers in the country and around the world and wished them to experience it in celebration, singing, praying to God...
- We rejoice because we have found ourselves, a loved one, a person is a loved one. And in that we experience joy, because where there is love, there is joy. Where there is no love, there is no joy. That is why the essence of Christmas is in love, that is the source of joy, said Cardinal Puljić, among other things.
Christmas is the most joyful Catholic holiday and celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated on December 25, but it has not been clearly established to this day whether Jesus was born on that exact date, as the New Testament does not state when Jesus was exactly born.
His birth is described in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, while his coming was foretold in the Old Testament.
According to Catholic belief, Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary, to whom the Archangel Gabriel appeared and announced this news to her.
She conceived him without having had relations with a man beforehand, after which she was married to Joseph the carpenter, with whom she went to Bethlehem, where Christ was born, writes Patria.
