Forestry Olympiad for the First Time in Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - Sarajevo's Secondary School for Environment and Wood Design will host and organize the 14th Alpe-Adria Forestry Olympiad this year, which will be held on April 11 and 12, 2019, on the plateau of the Forestry School Center in Ilidža. Participants of the Alpe Adria Forestry Olympiad are schools from the European Union, as well as the surrounding region. These are teams of students from Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, and the team from the Secondary School for Environment and Wood Design, Sarajevo. A total of 20 teams will compete for the best placement.

The goal of this event is to promote the forest worker as a valuable and serious participant in the field of forestry production, to achieve international competitiveness, and to connect with the broader labor market. Numerous participants will showcase their skills through various disciplines such as: felling a standing tree under simulated conditions, precise cutting of trees, speed of changing a chainsaw chain, combined tree cutting, and speed and precision of debranching trees under simulated conditions.

In addition to the competition, the entire Olympiad includes a series of accompanying events that are significant for the forestry sector, and present our city as an important tourist center. The Olympiad promotes Bosnian and Herzegovinian forestry, and the students are valuable ambassadors of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This type of competition, which will be different but very interesting, is being organized for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many guests, officials, and friends of the school are expected, who have supported the Olympiad project itself and participated in its organization.
