First Tarawih in Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo: Large number of worshippers at prayer, Baščaršija exudes Ramadan atmosphere

(Patria) - With tonight's sunset, the most chosen month in Islam - Ramadan - has begun. After welcoming the joyful month with lanterns and a special program, worshippers across Bosnia and Herzegovina performed the first Tarawih prayer following the Isha prayer.

Tarawih is a prayer associated with Ramadan, and Sarajevo's Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque was too small to accommodate the worshippers who wished to perform the first Ramadan Tarawih prayer.

Incidentally, despite the weather not being particularly favorable for spending time outdoors, Baščaršija exuded a special atmosphere tonight due to the arrival of this blessed month. The scent of traditional Ramadan somun bread also spread, as one of the traditional indicators of the arrival of the chosen month.

Lanterns were lit on the minarets of Sarajevo's mosques, and the beginning of Ramadan was announced by a cannon shot from the Yellow Fortress.

Sehur (the start of the fast) on the first day of Ramadan in Sarajevo this year is at 4:25 AM. Iftar is at 5:53 PM.

During Ramadan, and especially while fasting, worshippers spend their time in dhikr, listening to mukabala, learning and understanding the Qur'an, performing voluntary prayers, organizing sehur and iftar together, and doing good deeds.
