(Patria) – As medical experts continue to criticize the British government for prematurely lifting certain emergency measures in England, Scotland's First Minister emphasizes the need for a more cautious approach adopted by her government.
Nicola Sturgeon, who is participating in meetings of the broader British commission of experts and political leaders convened by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, claims that experts and scientists expect politicians to blame them for their own mistakes in recent months.
Late last week, British government advisors expressed concern about the decision to lift measures in England while the number of new infections and deaths continues to rise.
Sturgeon also suggested the possibility of inadequate reporting of deaths in British care homes.
Over the past few months, the coronavirus infection has erupted in care homes for the elderly. 40% of homes in England were affected, even more in Scotland, while more than 10 of their employees have died, reports The Guardian.
Asked if she believes politicians are not accepting scientists' advice, Sturgeon told Sky News:
- I agree with the opinion that we must be very cautious. The virus has not disappeared, and there is a significant risk that it could get out of control again.
