108 years have passed since the founding of the first Bosniak party - the Muslim National Organization (MNO), founded on December 3, 1906, led by Ali-beg Firdus, a prominent Bosnian politician from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
Ali-beg Firdus, born in Livno in 1862, comes from a respected Bosniak family that managed Livno from 1750 to 1835.
A strong character, political talent, patriotism, and wide popularity led him to the head of the Bosniak political movement. At his written invitation, a meeting of Bosniak leaders from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Slavonski Brod at the end of 1906, where the Muslim National Organization was founded, with Ali-beg Firdus as its first president.
The MNO's program prioritized the demand for Muslim religious and vakuf-maarif autonomy and political, i.e., state-legal autonomy. The organization enjoyed the support of the vast majority of all strata of the Muslim population, writes NAP.
