SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Robert Prosinečki, coach of the BiH "A" national team, arrived in Sarajevo after almost two months, where he will attend the session of the Executive Board of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina today. The end of last year was marked by our best selection's qualification for League A of the Nations League, and the coach's health problems, due to which he missed the draw for the EURO 2020 qualifying groups.
Coach Prosinečki spoke about his health condition for the official website of the FA of BiH.
"I feel great, I have recovered after the surgeries I had, and most importantly, all my test results are good. Initially, I had to watch my diet, but now that's all okay too, so I don't have any difficulties. There's still one minor corrective surgery left, and that will probably be after the match with Greece. I am in good spirits and eagerly await the start of these new qualifications."
Speaking about the EURO 2020 qualifying group, Prosinečki said that we did not get an easy group.
"Italy, who did not qualify for the World Cup, is the favorite, and they should not allow themselves not to qualify for another major tournament in a short period. Then there is always a tricky Greece, we have the Finns who are also not easy, but I think Liechtenstein and Armenia do not fall into the category of teams that would have a chance to go to the European Championship. BiH has quality players, and we are only thinking about going to the next major tournament, which is the European Championship."
The BiH national team has been eliminated in the play-offs twice in the qualifications for the European Championship. How difficult will it be now to secure participation in the tournament of the best European selections?
"We have a good national team, as I said during the Nations League, and our goal is to qualify for the European Championship. I am an optimist, and I believe that all my players have a great desire and great ambitions to go to this tournament. No matter how difficult the group is, we believe we can pass."
When asked about the plan for the March matches (against Armenia and Greece) and whether there will be new players in the national team, the coach emphasizes that there is not much time left.
"These two matches are coming very soon, Armenia first and then Greece, and I have been focused on that for a long time. I am monitoring all players, and they will play three or four matches before the qualifiers, with the championship in Russia not having started yet. These players who play are more or less standard and are playing well. Some who were injured, like Sejo (Kolašinac), have recovered, are playing well at Arsenal, and younger players like Gojak, Lončar, who play in Croatia and whom I have been following, are very good. There are some others, but we will see how they are doing by the call-up. Generally, we will not change much; some new players might come, but we will see about their form in the coming period."
Finally, Prosinečki noted that he will use his stay in Sarajevo to finalize the preparation plan for the start of the EURO 2020 qualifiers with his associates.
