Prof. Dr. Granov on heart transplantation: We finally have a complete process when it comes to heart diseases

(Patria) - At the beginning of this month, a team of doctors from KCUS led by Professor Dr. Nermir Granov successfully performed the first heart transplantation. Aldin Hajdarević is feeling well after the operation.

Prof. Dr. Nermir Granov said at today's press conference that he is just one small cog in the large composition that participated in making this happen.

"Nearly eight hundred people have participated over the last six years through analyses, whether legal, administrative or medical, it was the true logistics of material, technical and personnel equipment, which came together in one thread to make this operation possible," Granov said.

He added that there was a great deal of work from the Ministry as well, because it is an operational program that was taken from a sketch to a practice that can function.

"Heart transplantation is quite specific and very sensitive. When we performed the operation, we kept it secret for the simple reason that we first wanted to jump and then say hop. I must highlight our journey that began in 2018 with colleagues from Slovenia, whom I must mention; without their education and supervision it would not have been possible. In June 2022, we received permission to perform transplantation, but it did not happen because there were no donors. I thank the family because they are true patriots, when you as an individual, in the most difficult moment when you lose your loved ones, help save several lives. I think that should be a message to all of us living here in our country. When it comes to heart diseases, we now have a complete process. How much life is worth, there is no clear theory, but in some environment it is worth as much as the environment is willing to invest to support that life," Granov emphasized.
