(Patria) - As part of the M-17.3 Neum - Stolac main road construction project, the 970-meter-long Žaba tunnel (Hutovo) was finally broken through today. The contract value is 23,057,197.66 convertible marks with VAT.
The contracts for the tunnel construction were awarded in an international tender to Euro-Asfalt d.o.o. Sarajevo and HP Investing d.o.o. Mostar. The entire Stolac-Neum road, M17.3, 36 kilometers in length, is expected to be operational in 2021. This would finally connect Bosnia and Herzegovina's only city on the sea - Neum - with the rest of the country via a quality main road.
Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fadil Novalić, explained that this is a natural obstacle between Neum and Stolac, i.e., between the Adriatic coast and the rest of FBiH.
"This is a very significant undertaking, and I hope that in the next two years, the dream we have had since Austro-Hungary will be realized, namely, to access the Neum bay freely and without border crossings," stated Prime Minister Novalić after inspecting the tunnel.
The Mayor of Neum, Živko Matuško, emphasized that the road will facilitate and shorten travel to Neum, which will, in any case, improve the tourist position of the area.
Otherwise, a contract was also signed for the construction of the Drenovac-Stolovi section, 8.7 km long. The job, worth 17 million convertible marks, was awarded to a consortium comprising HP Investing Mostar and Putovi Grude, with a deadline of 16 months for the completion of this section.
In addition, a tender has been issued for the construction of the Broćanac-Prapratnica section, up to the entrance of the Žaba Tunnel, 3.5 km long, with two interchanges in Babin Do and Oštrovac, and the deadline for submitting bids is July 25.
The Federal Government has allocated 40 million euros for the construction of the Neum - Stolac road, which is part of the program for the construction and modernization of main roads in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
