Dirty Dancing Premieres in June at the BKS

The first audition for the musical Dirty Dancing, scheduled to premiere on June 9, 2015, at the Bosnian Cultural Center Sarajevo, was held at the Aster Dance Club in Sarajevo, reports the news agency Patria.

A large number of young, talented dancers and singers applied for the audition, eager to be part of the third musical production by the Institute for Music, Theatre, and Multimedia, which is co-producing the musical with the Sarajevo Music Academy.

- After the success of the musicals Grease and Footloose, the interest is truly immense, and we are eagerly looking forward to the audience seeing another American hit on stage, this time an adaptation of the 1987 dance film Dirty Dancing, which launched Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey to stardom, says Alma Ferović-Fazlić, the musical's director and the Institute's director, for Patria.

- As we always strive to be even better, this year we have chosen an even more challenging story in every sense, but we have joined forces with the Aster Dance Club from Sarajevo, whose professional dancers will join us on stage to perform highly complex dance routines, emphasizes Ferović-Fazlić.

It is important to note that this year's production is in the spirit of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Sarajevo Music Academy, which introduced musicals to the theatre stage through the subject of Musical-Stage Projects.

It is wonderful to know that something that began back in 2008 within a small circle of Music Academy students has today become a very serious team of musical theatre performers, who are constantly improving and have their loyal audience.

- So far, we have never had an empty seat in the halls, nor an audience that did not stand up and dance at the end of every performance, and for that, we are endlessly grateful. This time too, we promise that the audience will enjoy and dance to hit songs like "Time of my life", Hungry eyes, Yes, and many others. Immediately after the premiere, we plan to tour other cities, primarily Zenica, followed by Mostar and Tuzla, reveals Ferović-Fazlić.

The names of the actors, singers, and dancers will be announced soon, as will the names of the creative team realizing the musical.
