EUFOR Member from Romania Dies at Pool in Ilidža

(Patria) - A Romanian soldier serving in the EUFOR Multinational Battalion in BiH died yesterday after an accident at a water park in Sarajevo while off duty.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MApN) announced that Sergeant Major Parlac Ionuț Cosmin (35) was a member of the 281st Fire Support Battalion in Focșani and was on his first deployment in the operational center. The accident occurred while the soldier was swimming.

"The soldier, who was not on duty at the time, sustained severe bodily injuries while bathing at a water complex in Sarajevo. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the incident," stated MApN.

Medical personnel provided him with first aid and urgently transported him to the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS). Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the soldier was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the Military Prosecutor's Office in Iași, and a special commission has been established within the battalion and company headquarters.

Sergeant Major Parlac Ionuț Cosmin had been serving in the Romanian armed forces since 2019. He was married and a father of two children.

The Multinational Battalion, EUFOR's military maneuver unit operating in BiH, consists of soldiers from Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Turkey, reports N1. Romania has the largest contribution of soldiers, with over 1,000 soldiers.

We remind you that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton announced yesterday that a man died at a pool in Ilidža.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Mersiha Novalić, said that emergency services received a call for intervention at a hotel in Ilidža.

"At 3:20 PM, the Ilidža Police Department was informed that an emergency medical team was called for an intervention at a pool within a hotel in Ilidža, and that resuscitation efforts were underway for a male individual.

Police officers went to the scene and, under the order of the duty prosecutor, secured the scene. At 3:55 PM, the death of the male individual, born in 1990, was confirmed at KCUS," Novalić stated.

She added that an investigation was conducted, which was led by a prosecutor from the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office.

"No elements of a criminal offense were found," Novalić concluded.
