The Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nedeljko Čubrilović, today in the entity parliament explained the Draft Declaration regarding the request for constitutionality assessment of the Law on Holidays of RS in the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the debate on this document has begun, despite the fact that it has been deemed unacceptable by the OHR, the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, and the US Embassy in BiH, reports the Patria News Agency.
Čubrilović asserted that the Constitutional Court of BiH should reject the request of the Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegović, for the constitutionality assessment of certain articles of the Law on Holidays of RS, which establish January 9th as the Day of Republika Srpska.
The Constitutional Court of BiH should, he stated, make a decision that "there is no discrimination" in the Law on Holidays of RS.
- We will never agree to the abolition of RS Day, should someone make a decision to abolish January 9th as RS Day - Čubrilović stated in his address to the entity parliament, reiterating that Izetbegović's request is political, not based on law.
He claims that this request contains the "unconcealed intention of destroying the legality and legitimacy of RS and the Dayton constitutional order of BiH."
- We decisively warn the bodies and institutions of BiH and all those who, with such and similar initiatives and actions, do not contribute to reconciliation and tolerance among peoples and citizens, that we will never give up on RS Day and its commemoration - said Čubrilović.
He says that the intention of the entity parliament is to send a message about its commitment to "sincere tolerance and equal legal status and respect for the rights of every person and citizen in this country."
- At the same time, we will challenge the cooperation and existence of political parties and their leaders who view BiH and its entities only from the perspective of different interpretations of state organization, the causes, character, and consequences of tragic conflicts. They should finally accept the Dayton model of the state and society of BiH, because otherwise, this country will remain stuck at the very bottom of European processes and persistently hampered by demands for a centralized organization... - said Čubrilović.
Izetbegović requested back in 2013 that the Constitutional Court of BiH assess the constitutionality of certain articles of the Law on Holidays of Republika Srpska, which establish January 9th as the Day of Republika Srpska, reports BNTV.
