Proposal goes to rector for signature: Čavaljuga elected dean of the Faculty of Medicine

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Teaching and Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine today voted Semra Čavaljuga as dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo, who was the only candidate for the position, although several professors from that faculty met the competition requirements.

This proposal now goes to the rector of the University of Sarajevo, Rifat Škrijelj, who should sign the decision on the election of the dean. It should be recalled that several criminal charges have been filed against Prof. Dr. Semra Čavaljuga with the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, which has formed a case and a prosecutorial team that is conducting checks and reviewing extensive documentation seized from the Faculty of Medicine, the Rectorate of UNSA, and the Board of Directors in the case of Ismet Gavrankapetanović.

The charges against Dean Čavaljuga and others relate to the criminal offenses of abuse of position or authority, negligent work in service, illegal mediation, violation of equality in employment, and violation of labor rights under the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is also alleged that the reported individuals committed these criminal acts and that unknown persons exerted undue influence on the reported individuals by inciting and aiding in the commission of these criminal acts.

One of the criminal charges against Dean Čavaljuga was also filed by the rector himself due to false representation. Rector Škrijelj suspended her in November 2018, and the Board of Directors dismissed her in December, after which the Teaching and Scientific Council re-elected her as dean at the end of December 2018, a decision annulled by the rector of UNSA.

As sources from the Faculty of Medicine confirmed to Patria, 43 members did not attend today's session of the Teaching and Scientific Council. Fourteen members voted against, and two ballots were invalid. Given that Čavaljuga received the required number of votes from the members of the Teaching and Scientific Council (83), she was elected dean.
