33 years ago, the "Bregava" Brigade was formed: 2,785 fighters passed through it, many of them gave their lives for the homeland

(Patria) - The celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the 42nd Mountain Brigade "Bregava" of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized by the Association of Citizens Bregava, was held this evening in the hall of the Cultural Center of the Islamic Community (MIZ) Čapljina in Vrhovnik.

This brigade, whose first commander was Ibro Šuta, was formed by the Decision of the Supreme Command Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, number: 02/340-857, dated August 21, 1992.



All knightly brigades of the Army of RBiH, of which there are a total of 16 in our country, were invited to the gathering, and representatives of the 2nd Knightly Brigade attended the anniversary celebration from Sarajevo.

The official part of the program included addresses by representatives of the Association, wartime commanders, and representatives of the BiH executive authorities.

The cultural and artistic part of the program featured performances by the singing group KUD Kolo Dubravsko, Počitelj Tamburaši, and the 3rd Band of the Military Orchestra of the Armed Forces of BiH.

In his address on this occasion, published on the Facebook page of the Association of Citizens Bregava, the chief imam of MIZ Čapljina, Adem ef. Šuta, emphasized that August 21, 1992, when the "Bregava" brigade was formed, will be written in golden letters in our consciousness and history.

- This is the day when we remember our martyrs, war invalids, demobilized fighters, and all heroes; those we know, but also many more whose names we do not know. They are our heroes.

Gratitude and remembrance of them must be permanent. We must never forget their courage and struggle. They, when times were hardest, stood bravely unarmed and defended their homeland, faith, property, family, honor, and dignity from the aggressor, from those who committed crimes and genocide in BiH.



Their deed is great, it is sacred. We must talk about these great feats, we must teach younger generations about their courage and dedication - Šuta pointed out.

Part of the memory of those days in the nineties and the honorable moments of resistance and defense of our homeland BiH, he added, represents a history we should be proud of.

- The "Bregava" Brigade emerged from our people, with the aim of defending our faith, people, and homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression of 1992-1995.

Through the units of the "Bregava" Brigade, i.e., the 42nd Mountain Brigade, 2,785 fighters from nine municipalities passed: Čapljina, Stolac, Mostar, Nevesinje, Trebinje, Gacko, Bileća, Ljubinje, and Neum. 155 fighters of the brigade were killed.

Our fallen fighters, our martyrs and ghazis who defended and protected our Bosnia and Herzegovina with their bodies, are the pride and dignity of the Bosniak people.

It is our obligation to pass on the history of the honorable struggle and defense of our people and homeland to younger generations - so that those who gave their lives and body parts, our fighters, martyrs, and ghazis, are not forgotten.

These heroes, due to their deeds, will be recorded in a place from which they will never be erased, with their Lord, and His reward is the best and eternal - Šuta conveyed.



Knowing the importance of every sacrifice for our homeland, he further stated, the Islamic Community strives to preserve and commemorate all significant dates from past aggressions on our homeland in a dignified manner, thereby preserving the memory of the martyrs and the sacrifice they made for our freedom.

- Tomorrow, in all our mosques before the Friday prayer, we will recite Yasin for our martyrs and all deceased members of the "Bregava" Brigade - 42nd Mountain Brigade.

To all of you, the families of our martyrs, war invalids, all fighters and members of the "Bregava" Brigade - 42nd Mountain Brigade, we congratulate you on the brigade's formation day.

I ask God Almighty to be pleased with us, to reward our fighters who honorably defended the homeland with His reward, to grant our martyrs the most beautiful gardens of paradise and unite them with their loved ones in paradise!

Almighty Allah, grant our homeland stability and all progress under Your protection; protect it from misfortunes and calamities.

Merciful Allah, increase our love for our homeland, do not allow oppressors to be in power, and entrust our care to the best among us. And be with us, not against us.
