19 years ago today, the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed, ending the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the BH News Agency Patria.
The peace agreement was signed by the then presidents of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović, Croatia Franjo Tuđman, and Serbia Slobodan Milošević. None of the three are alive today.
Incidentally, the Dayton Peace Agreement was initialed on November 21, 1995, in Dayton, and signed three weeks later. The agreement established two entities – the Federation of BiH and RS.
Although it was intended to be a temporary solution, the Dayton Peace Agreement remains a subject of many discussions today, with some calling it the "straitjacket of Bosnia and Herzegovina," while it serves Milorad Dodik, president of RS and SNSD, as a guarantee of the existence of RS.
