16 years ago, Sarajevo fan Vedran Puljić was killed in Široki Brijeg, no one has been held accountable for his death

(Patria) - Today marks 16 years since the tragic murder of FK Sarajevo fan Vedran Puljić. No one has been held accountable for his murder.

Puljić was killed in front of the Pecara stadium in Široki Brijeg where FK Sarajevo was playing a match. On that day, Horde zla were celebrating their 22nd birthday, but instead of celebrating, they ended the day mourning a friend from the stands.

His killer is at large, and for 16 years, people have been waiting for the truth about this case and for the perpetrator to be punished.

FK Željezničar paid tribute to Puljić today.

"Today marks 16 years since the tragic murder of FK Sarajevo fan Vedran Puljić. Although the crime occurred on October 4, 2009, no one has been held accountable for it to this day, and the devastating fact is that the perpetrator is still moving freely," stated FK Željezničar.

FK Sarajevo published a video with the message: "Even in the world beyond, your voice will be heard… - VEDRAN PULJIĆ".

Oliver Knezović was suspected of the murder. He surrendered himself and admitted to shooting at Sarajevo fans, but he escaped from prison a few days later. Nine years after the murder, the indictment was amended in Croatia, and Knezović began to be charged with attempted murder and causing general danger, not murder. It was determined that Knezović took a gun from police officer Dragan Vujević and fired ten shots at a group of Sarajevo fans, but it was not determined if he hit anyone.

During the trial, experts, based on 3D mapping, indicated that it was impossible to determine from which gun Puljić was shot, and stated that Puljić was most likely not hit from the position where Knezović was, but from the parking lot of a gas station.

In December 2023, in a retrial before the County Court in Split, judge Zoran Ivanišević issued an acquittal for Oliver Knezović in the retrial for attempted murder.

Vedran Puljić was 22 years old.
