Premature Political Campaign and Misuse of Public Funds by Mayor Karić

(Patria) - Mayor Benjamina Karić remembered the municipality of Novo Sarajevo and its pensioners only when she decided to fictitiously transfer CIPS to our Municipality just before the elections, although she lives in the area of the Municipality of Centar, with the aim of running for mayor, it was announced from SDA Novo Sarajevo.

"According to election regulations, it is forbidden to misuse public funds for personal promotion of elected officials, but it is also forbidden to conduct a premature campaign.

Namely, Mayor Karić, a candidate of SDP and the Trojka coalition, for the mayor of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo in the upcoming local elections, organized trips for pensioners from the municipality of Novo Sarajevo using public funds, and distributed gifts with her signature to pensioners during these trips.

Although at first glance it may seem like a kind gesture, this act is nothing more than a model for gaining votes with taxpayer money and conducting a premature election campaign. These packages, branded with her name and the city logo, represent a clear form of self-promotion. Such actions are in direct contradiction with the election law, which prohibits early campaigning. Sarajevo City funds should be used to improve the city and the lives of its residents, not for political self-promotion.

Such actions by the Mayor do not surprise us, given that she has used her entire term for photo opportunities and populism, without initiating a single concrete capital project, except for, for example, facade reconstruction, which is a project she found in the city administration.

We call on the Central Election Commission to sanction this obvious violation of election rules and misuse of public funds," announced the Municipal Board of SDA Novo Sarajevo.
