Press conference of BiH camp detainees: When freedom becomes slavery

Members of the Association of Camp Detainees of Bosnia and Herzegovina will hold a press conference today titled "When freedom (becomes) slavery", which will address the shameful attitude of the authorities in BiH towards camp detainees who suffered torture from 1992 to 2015 during the aggression against BiH, reports the Patria News Agency.

The conference starts at 11 AM, at the hotel "ASTRA GARNI", in Sarajevo, Kundurdžiluk street 2.

Camp detainees will also address the development of the situation with lawsuits filed by camp detainees for compensation of non-material damages from the state at the conference.

The press conference will be addressed by the President of the Association of Camp Detainees in BiH Jasmin Mešković, President of the Association of Camp Detainees of Banja Luka region and Deputy President of the Association of Camp Detainees in BiH Sabahudin Garibović, a lawyer from Sarajevo engaged in camp detainee cases for compensation of non-material damages before the courts in FBiH Nedžla Šehić, and a lawyer from Tuzla engaged in camp detainee cases for compensation of non-material damages before the courts in RS Amir Mešić.

According to data from the Association of Camp Detainees of BiH, there were 657 camps on the territory of BiH during the aggression, the largest number of which were on the territory controlled by the army and police of Republika Srpska, and through which a total of about 200,000 prisoners passed. About 30,000 of them were killed or are still listed as missing.

More than 30,000 camp detainees from Bosnia and Herzegovina are currently in legal proceedings against the entities of Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH due to the torture they endured in the camps during the aggression against BiH from 1992 to 1995. The total compensation claim against RS amounts to about one billion and 600 million KM, while the claim against FBiH is about 400 million KM, writes Patria.
