Number of Italians visiting Medjugorje halved

Medjugorje is recording a significant drop in pilgrim visits, after Pope Francis stated at the beginning of June during his visit to Sarajevo that an official Vatican decision on the apparitions in Medjugorje would be made, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

The text published by the New York Times, and reported by numerous world media, states that the number of Italians visiting this Herzegovinian town has halved.

The Vatican concluded its investigation 18 months ago, but the decision on Medjugorje is still unknown.

According to guides in Medjugorje, while awaiting the Vatican's decision, uncertainty is being created, which also affects the season. It is stated that before the claims that the Virgin Mary appeared in Medjugorje, the local population lived from the production of tobacco and grapes.
