Professor Željko Šain has passed away

(Patria) - Sarajevo has lost one of its most respected professors and intellectuals – Željko Šain, professor at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo, an expert, educator, and long-time public figure who left a deep mark on the academic and social life of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the occasion of his death, Nijaz Skenderagić, a close friend of the late professor, announced himself with an emotional post on social media. In his farewell, Skenderagić evoked memories of Šain, highlighting his human and professional greatness.

"He was a cosmopolitan in the true sense of the word – broad-minded, big-hearted, always ready for conversation, understanding, and help," wrote Skenderagić, recalling the values that Professor Šain constantly advocated and lived by.

Željko Šain was born in Kraljeva Sutjeska, and he spent his entire working life in Sarajevo, where he built an exceptionally respected professorial and scientific reputation. He was particularly dedicated to the education of young people, and many generations of students will remember him as a strict but fair professor who was always ready to help and provide support.

"His silence carried wisdom, and his word carried strength," Skenderagić wrote in a farewell tone. "It is hard to imagine that he is no longer with us, but what he left behind cannot disappear."

Professor Šain was a true humanist, engaged in numerous social processes, known and respected not only in academic but also in political and non-governmental circles. His life was an example of dedication to the community, knowledge, and universal values of human solidarity and honesty.

"Thank you for everything, friend Željko. Rest in peace," Skenderagić concluded.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has lost one of the last universalists of its academic community.
