(Patria) - Emin Švrakić, founder and commander of the legendary Green Berets, has passed away, it was confirmed today.
Švrakić was one of the key figures in the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1992–1995 aggression. As one of the first to organize against the impending threat, he made an immeasurable contribution to the formation of patriotic forces that defended the country.
In the most difficult moments, when Sarajevo was under siege, it was Švrakić and his comrades from the Green Berets who played a crucial role in the city's defense. His name is associated with May 2, 1992, the day when the citizens of Sarajevo showed determination and resistance against a superior enemy.
After the war, Švrakić remained active in social and media life. He was one of the founders of Hayat television, thereby further contributing to the development of free and independent media in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For many, he was a symbol of struggle, honesty, and unconditional love for his homeland. His passing represents a great loss, not only for his comrades and family but also for all citizens who saw him as a true patriot.
The time and place of the funeral will be announced later.
