Premier Pivić panelist at Transparency International conference: Zenica-Doboj Canton an example of transparency

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton Nezir Pivić is one of the panelists at the two-day conference titled "Open Government for an Open Society", held in Mostar, organized by Transparency
International in BiH (TI BiH). The conference is intended for representatives of executive and legislative authorities at all levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of joint dialogue on improving the openness of institutions and strengthening democratic processes.

It also aims to present good practices of governments and parliaments and exchange experiences of representatives of institutions at all levels of government, in order to identify successful models and joint solutions for improving
transparency and accountability.

Premier Pivić emphasized that transparency and a responsible approach to spending the public budget are among the key policies of the Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton, which he leads, and which was appointed two years ago.

The organizers noted that Zenica-Doboj Canton is an example of good practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina, because the measures and mechanisms that the Government of this Canton applies in its work – especially regarding transparency and openness of decision-making processes – contribute to increasing citizens' trust in institutions, reducing space for abuses, and strengthening government accountability.

They particularly praised the transparency and accessibility via web platforms of work programs, materials for sessions of the Government and Assembly, which are fully available to the public, as well as all other adopted acts and regulations.

It was also highlighted that all budget funds are allocated through public calls and clearly defined criteria.

The establishment of publicly accessible registers of employees and appointed persons in this Canton was also assessed very positively, and several other significant registers are being prepared, with the aim of reducing the risk of corrupt activities.
It was emphasized that all these mechanisms fit into the principles of the Public Administration Reform Strategy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which recognizes the need to improve transparency and openness. Through the measure of ensuring
inclusive access and public involvement in the phases of creation, implementation and monitoring of strategic plans, public policies and regulations, and through increasing the availability of public administration information, the Strategy seeks to address these
issues.
