Australian Prime Minister on the Srebrenica genocide: Such evil must never be repeated

AUSTRALIA, (Patria) - Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has for the first time issued a statement on the occasion of the commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide on July 11, and in a letter sent to the media by the BiH Ambassador to Australia Mirza Hajrić, it is stated that every year on July 11, the world remembers the massacre in Srebrenica.

"We mourn the lost lives and pay tribute to the courage and resilience of the survivors. Together, we ensure that such tragic events will never be forgotten, and that we will hold onto the lessons that have emerged from them. Such evil must never be repeated against any people or nation. Above all, as Australians, we are committed to the principles of acceptance, respect and inclusion. We all have a role to play in ensuring that this great country continues to be a place where everyone is treated fairly; where our differences do not divide us, but enrich us. That is the promise of Australia, and the reason why people from all over the world call this country home – we are one of the most peaceful and harmonious multicultural societies on earth.

On behalf of the Government of Australia and its people, I express my deepest condolences to all those who lost their loved ones in Srebrenica. I wish you to find peace at the commemoration, knowing that the memory remains forever in our hearts", the letter from Prime Minister Morrison states.
