The adoption of a law on student standard, which would regulate the rights and interests of around 40,000 students studying at the University of Sarajevo and several private faculties, is one of the topics discussed this morning by representatives of the Student Parliament (SPUS) with the Prime Minister of KS Elmedin Konaković, reports the Patria News Agency.
- Parallel to the drafting and adoption of the aforementioned law, we will launch initiatives towards the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of KS with which we will begin the processes of amending the Study Rules in the part that regulates exam pass rates, as well as improving the evaluation system of professors at faculties and revising the existing price list of services at UNSA - specified the areas of future action by the president of SPUS Ahmed Nurković.
He also announced a review of the expenditure of funds for the implementation of the electronic grading system (ISSS) and the use of libraries at UNSA, and the submission of an initiative to introduce sports as a compulsory subject at all faculties.
Prime Minister Konaković supported the drafting and adoption of the law on student standard, as it is one of the priorities in the work of the Government of Sarajevo Canton during this mandate.
- In this way, we will jointly establish student standards and work on their fulfillment - emphasized Konaković, adding that the student population should not take sides but should work intensively on advocating, promoting, protecting, and realizing the rights of students. He stressed that everyone should have a common goal, which is the initiation and implementation of positive processes at UNSA, initially through the adoption of two very important bylaws - on salaries at UNSA and on the distribution of extra-budgetary own revenues.
- When it comes to this second bylaw, our intention is to direct the surplus of own funds, which we certainly know exist, towards science through support for the preparation of scientific research projects, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations, as well as in support of extracurricular activities of the student population - explained Prime Minister Konaković on this occasion.
Discussions also covered problems in the implementation of the teaching process, including practical training, and the necessity of more direct linking of higher education institutions with economic entities. The need for the most urgent finding of solutions to the evident problems with the education of children of martyrs and fallen fighters during enrollment, which some faculties do not respect, was also emphasized. The possibilities of finding the best model for financing the education of the student population in KS were also considered, and the example of Croatia was highlighted as a possible future model to be applied at UNSA.
Activities to improve the system of registering companies for young entrepreneurs were also announced, which will be the focus of interest next week for the heads of governments at the cantonal, federal, and state levels, for whom a joint meeting on this matter is planned. The need for a definitive solution to the financing of the Student Parliament's work was also highlighted.
