BiH Presidency Appoints Zlatko Knežević to Venice Commission, Who Left BiH Constitutional Court at RS Authorities' Request

(Patria) - The BiH Presidency, at its session on May 18, appointed Zlatko Knežević as a member of the European Commission for Democracy through Law – the Venice Commission, with Jasmina Džumhur as his deputy and Neven Anđelić as a deputy member.

The BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been tasked with submitting the decision and biographies to the office of the Venice Commission.

Knežević was the highest-ranked candidate during the selection procedure, and the Commission was headed by Šahbaz Džihanović, advisor to the BiH Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović.

Zlatko Knežević is a former judge of the BiH Constitutional Court who resigned from his position in 2023 after the RS authorities called on personnel from Republika Srpska to leave the judiciary. Knežević retired early, even though he could have served as a constitutional judge until the age of 70. Since then, there have been no judges in the BiH Constitutional Court appointed by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, and the RS entity authorities refuse to appoint two judges and are constantly attacking the BiH Constitutional Court.
