Mexican President congratulates mathematicians for 13th place; in BiH, Olympic gold matters to no one

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto congratulated mathematicians from his country for placing 13th a few days ago at the Women's Mathematical Olympiad held in Romania.

No one congratulated the mathematicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina, even though they won four medals, including gold, and placed an excellent 5th overall among nearly 40 countries worldwide.  

„Congratulations, Mexican winners at the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad. They are the pride of Mexico,“ Nieto wrote on his Twitter profile.

The Women's Mathematical Olympiad was held last week in Romania. Female mathematicians from the Federation of BiH did not receive support from the Government of Fadil Novalić to attend the gathering of the world's best mathematicians. The trip, which cost only about 1,500 KM, had to be paid for by their parents and friends. Their colleagues from the RS had their trip paid for by the RS Government. However, despite all the difficulties, BiH competitors excelled in Romania: Adisa Bolić won a gold medal, Neira Kurtović and Tijana Babić won silver, and Milica Babić won a bronze medal. As a team, Bosnia and Herzegovina took an excellent fifth place. They left behind world powers such as England, Japan, France, Israel...

First place in this competition went to Russia, second to the USA, third to Bulgaria, fourth to Turkey, and fifth to Bosnia and Herzegovina, NAP reports.
