(Patria) - South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared martial law in the country, accusing the opposition of "anti-state activities."
Yoon said he would "restore a free and democratic country through martial law."
The South Korean president accused the opposition of "controlling parliament, sympathizing with North Korea, and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities."
He declared martial law during a national address, with the aim of defending the country's constitutional order.
Since taking office in 2022, Yoon has struggled to push through his agenda against a parliament controlled by the opposition.
