President Van der Bellen and Chancellor Kurz decide: Early elections in Austria in September

(Patria) - Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen today advocated for early parliamentary elections to be held at the beginning of September.

He said that the most important thing is that Austrians get the opportunity for a new beginning in order to restore trust in the government.

"This new beginning is needed as soon as possible, as soon as conditions are met in accordance with the constitution. Therefore, I advocate for elections in September, at the beginning of that month," said Van der Bellen.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz dissolved the coalition government yesterday and announced the holding of early elections, after his deputy, the leader of the Freedom Party, Heinz-Christian Strache, resigned due to a corruption scandal.
