(Patria) - The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo confirmed the indictment of the Sarajevo Cantonal Prosecutor's Office against a mother and her relative for the criminal offense of human trafficking.
They are accused of forcing four minor children to beg at several locations in Sarajevo during 2025 and early 2026. They threatened them, physically punished them, and forced them to earn up to 50 KM per day.
The accused took the money collected by the children. According to the indictment, the children were often exposed to bad weather, did not attend school, and often earned their own food.
After the indictment was confirmed, the court extended the detention of the accused. The children, victims of human trafficking, have been placed in a safe house.
The prosecutor proposed to the court to hear 11 witnesses, five experts, and present more than 30 material evidence items during the main trial. Also, due to the protection of minor children and the sensitivity of the case, the prosecutor's office cannot disclose the identity of the accused or other information that could lead to their identification.
