Confirmed from The Hague: Praljak is alive, receiving medical attention

THE HAGUE, (Patria) - The Appeals Chamber of the Hague Tribunal today interrupted the pronouncement of the verdict for the Bosnian Herzegovinian six because HVO General Slobodan Praljak swallowed the contents of a vial which he said was poison.

The first official information came only after more than an hour when the court's public relations service announced that Praljak was receiving all medical care.

They asked the media to remain calm and said they would provide further information.

Večernji list journalist Tomislav Krasnec wrote on Twitter that he heard a guard say that "everything is under control", but that doctors are still with Praljak.

The Croatian ambassador to the Netherlands asked the president of the court for information about what happened in the courtroom, but he received her only after an hour of waiting.

After Praljak drank the liquid, police and ambulance arrived at the court, making it increasingly certain that Praljak had indeed drunk poison. The police then moved the cameras away from the entrance to the court. A helicopter was dispatched for Praljak, who may have poisoned himself in the courtroom, and was supposed to land in front of the Hague Tribunal building.

Krasnec wrote on Twitter that at one point, paramedics in the building received a delivery. It consisted of two packages which, according to Krasnec, looked like medicine.

No one from Praljak's family is in The Hague; he had told his wife not to come to the pronouncement of the verdict.

Retired HV General Marinko Krešić told Croatian media that he received information that Praljak had indeed drunk poison and was in serious condition.
