Cooperation of all levels of government needed for landslide remediation in Sarajevo in both entities

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk initiated an urgent meeting at the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of solving the problem of landslides that threaten the safety of the population. The focus was the landslide in the area of East Stari Grad, which poses a serious threat to facilities and residents of the municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.

The meeting discussed the remaining obligations agreed upon during the earlier meeting at Brus, which include implementing urgent measures: cleaning three blocked springs and building a drainage system to prevent the spread of the landslide.

Given that the landslide is located on the territory of the Republika Srpska, and the population of the Federation of BiH is threatened, the most efficient way to carry out these works was proposed, in accordance with legal regulations and jurisdictions.

The Institute for Construction of Sarajevo Canton has prepared a project for urgent measures to clean blocked springs, while together with the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Sarajevo, it is finalizing the main project for landslide remediation. The Government of Sarajevo Canton, through the Ministry of Labor, Social Policy, Displaced Persons and Refugees, also finances the rental of residential buildings for fellow citizens from areas affected by the landslide.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the municipalities of Stari Grad and East Stari Grad, the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Sarajevo Canton, the Federal Civil Protection Administration of the Federation of BiH, and the Civil Protection of the Republika Srpska.

"Representatives of all relevant institutions have shown readiness to work together and coordinate effectively. On behalf of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, I assure citizens that we will do everything in our power to ensure their safety and resolve the landslide problem as soon as possible. I thank all meeting participants for their dedication and willingness to cooperate in solving this challenge," Prime Minister Uk said after the meeting.
